Signs of a Healthy Leader: Team Members are Assets, Not Threats

Signs of a Healthy Leader: Team Members are Assets, Not Threats

A healthy leader will see the strengths and skills of team members as assets to be appreciated. An unhealthy leader will feel threatened by the strengths and skills of team members.

There is a stark difference between leaders who trust their team members and leaders who see their team members’ competence as a threat to the leader.

Lack of trust will always undermine and poison any attempts at building a healthy culture.

However, a leader’s ability to trust their team is directly tied to the leader’s own health. When a leader is taking steps to ensure their own health, they have a greater capacity for trust. When a leader is exhausted, overwhelmed, self-centered or otherwise in an unhealthy space, their capacity to trust their team members will be negatively impacted.

When a leader is in a space of healthy confidence (neither underestimating nor overestimating their own talents), they can appreciate and help unlock the full potential of their team.
